NEW! Special Edition Stinger Yellow Fan! This version comes with 4500RPM fan instead of the 3500RPM fan. It's Louder, but slightly more performant for those of you who value performance over quieter operation. It also is built with a more durable plastic, and a sandstone finish instead of the holographic finishes like the other fans.

Enthusiast Built

I've been reviewing and sharing my findings on the effects of cooling the chassis of the Surface Pro devices for almost a decade starting with the Surface Pro 3. I Designed this fan from the Ground up specifically to work with the Surface Pro 7, 8, 9, 10 & 11. The USB-C model attaches easily and seamlessly with magnets to the Surface Pro 7,7+,8, 9, 10 & 11. No fiddling with other unstable USB fans that tip over / cut your hands

Efficient
When choosing a fan for this application, its a balancing act of noise, performance, and power consumption. The fan chosen for this surface fan uses only 1 watt to operate, is slim, no blade edges sticking out and provides the cooling necessary, while being smooth and quiet compared to most other solutions. It also doesn't hurt that it looks pretty nice too.

Performance
This fan can boost your performance substantially. Surface devices are programmed to throttle hard if the temperature of where you place your hands on the chassis become too hot. By keeping the outside cool, you'll actually see your CPU ramping up it's clock speed (and getting hotter even!) because you've now eliminated the system from worrying about the chassis temperature, which allows it to pushing higher clocks and performance.

FAQ

How does the CButters Tech Performance Fan work?
The surface line of products will throttle the performance if it senses that the chassis temperature is getting too hot to touch. (These are tablets after all) If the chassis is too hot, the Surface Pro will limit clock speeds and performance. By keeping the chassis cool; you allow the device to perform sustained workloads at much higher performance. In my testing we can see in some instances we were doubling the performance for those sustained workloads vs. no fan in the same ambient temperature.

Why is your fan any different from a fan I can just buy off amazon?
The biggest difference is that my Fan; especially the USB-C version for Surface Pro 7-11 is unmatched in ease of usage. It pops right on / looks great, takes up very little space / attaches magnetically and is unlike anything else I've ever seen for this purpose. It's also a great opportunity to support my channel. The fan is also hand-made in the USA by me, and not a mass produced item.

When Should I buy the USB-A version over the USB-C Version?
You should only buy the USB-C Version if you have a Surface Pro 7-11 device, the benefit of the USB-C version is it pops right on; no cables and the fan is in position. Some Surface Pro 7+/8/9/10 users may STILL want to buy the USB-A Version if they need access to both of their USB-C ports while using the fan. I originally was going to just produce the USB-C version... but realized that I could better serve users better by offering both options.

Is the CButters Tech Performance Fan 3D Printed?
Yes, the housing is 3D Printed. This is a short run device made by me personally and 3D Printing is the BEST way to get this very niche product to market quickly and affordably. I have a lot of experience with 3D Printing if you watch my channel and I've designed these to the highest level of quality possible and use high quality materials. There may be additional color options in the future as well.

Works great

Bought one for my Surface Pro 9 and it keeps the device noticeably cooler during high load.

Works as advertised

Not problems with either the normal, or performance fan. I’ll see how they hold up as they are 3D printed, but so far after a few hours my Surface Pro 8 is staying cooler and not having to run its own fans so hard on games, or applications like Fantasy Grounds VTT.

Awesome product!

This fan really does what it says it will! It's portable, easy to throw in a bag and keep my system cool and quiet!

Review of High Speed (yellow) Fan

The fan delivers as promised on my surface pro 8 and pro 10 business model. The fan blows a huge amount of air over the top half of the back of the device. It essentially turns the entire case into an actively cooled heatsink.

I played a game that normally thermal throttles my pro10. The fan not only stopped the thermal throttleing, it actually got the external case temp to be near room temperature for the area opposite the CPU. The fan sits on the CPU and it's still like warm if I take the fan off to check the CPU area of the case.

My only issue is the lack of color choices for the high speed fan and lack of fan controll. It would be great if there was a potentiameter or something that allowed you to dial back the speed. The high speed version is a little louder than my dual fan gaming laptop going full speed. It's not too usable in a quiet environment like a library or on the couch next to someone watching TV. I probably should have purchased the normal speed one as well.

tech fan - Awesome!!!

I've been looking a cooling fan for my Surface Pro, that actually works for the surface. Well, I have to say the CButters Tech Performance Fan is Awesome. Not only does it provide the needed cooling to the back of the surface pro, it also looks great and total slides in and connects to the surface pro's USB C on the side. It looks and works great. Everyone needs one, its also fairly quite and easy to install and remove. Thank you so much for creating this!
